Legend of The Guardian: The Owls Of Ga’Hoole

MV5BMjE0NjA5OTA4N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwODA3MTA3Mw@@._V1._SX214_CR0,0,214,314_

There… This sort of movie is not exactly in my list of ‘must-watch’ movies.. But my friend said it’s nice if you watch it in 3D. Unfortunately, after being ‘conned’ several times by movies like Resident Evil: Afterlife and Step-Up 3D.. I’ve decided to go for the cheaper ticket, so I wouldn’t come out of the cinema feeling like an idiot.

Synopsis

There this naive little  owl, Soren and his brother Kludd was kidnapped by the evil forces of St.Angie’s where orphaned owls are turned into their soldiers. Soren escaped and with the help of his friends, they are off to find the Guardian living in the tree of Ga’Hoole.

Review..

Ok  how do I start.. ?? Let's just start with what annoys me the most in the entire movie. These owls have practically been very strong British accent that got me struggling to make out what they're trying to say. I checked and found out that this movie is actually made in the US so why is the accent necessary?

The storyline and the movie plot is something that I have always looked forward to into , no matter what kind of movie it is, if the plot doesn’t seem impressive enough then I think the film would surely be a let-down. That’s MY opinion.

However, the plot I must say.. does not impress me at all.. It’s so dull and boring that I nearly fell asleep inside the cinema. I think anyone of you could have figured the whole course of the movie by the time you sit in there for about 20 minutes. However, it would still serve as an entertainment as a family-film.

Next, it’s about the CGI effects. The computer effects are quite detailed and stunning (if you watch it in 3D). As for normal screen, I find it acceptable when it comes to the owls and the environment and sort, it’s been an easy job for the movie industry these days. Even so there are parts of the movie, which could have been made better in order to improvise the movie.

Finally, it’s a movie that I would suggest friends or couples to watch, but if you have a family with children then this movie will serve it’s purpose.

Devil (2010)

indexI don't usually watch horror/thriller movies in the cinemas because I feel stupid to pay and get yourself scared.

This story is written M.Night Shymalan, the very same person who did Sixth Sense, The Village and the Last Airbender..

Brief Synopsis

5 different person got trapped inside the elevator with a devil among them.

Review

Look at the plot.. we have 5 people trapped in a small elevator with a devil among them. How is such a plot going to expand other than mindless killing, which is surely to expose the killer who eventually kills the suspense and ends as one of the stupidest movies ever made..

However, HEY.. I WAS WRONG…

I was really taken aback by how good the movie turns out to be. In fact, I think it’s one of the best thrillers of the year. Last year was Saw VI :)

To be honest, I’m extremely annoyed by the poor acting. It really got me irritated up until the middle of the film, But as soon as the plot began to develop, I am too dwelt into the movie to care about their acting.

I’m not if they censored any of the gruesome scenes, but I don’t find it too violent after all. Lucky thing they did not include any of those super senseless killings like we used to see in American horror films that could ultimately destroy the whole purpose of making a movie.

Maybe because I’m watching it on the big screen, I find this movie suspenseful enough to keep me occupied the whole course of the movie. Nevertheless, of course, you shouldn’t be expecting quality of horror like ‘6th Sense’ because that was classic. The final part was a surprise. I mean that’s the only part which is worth gave me a fright. Man, these directors is really good at making ‘ending’ these days.

Lastly, if you’re looking for a good horror film which decent sense, plot and a message to deliver then this is a film for you. Even so, if you just want to get yourself frightened then go for some crappy korean/japanese horror. They are always capable of scaring you from their senseless storyline.

They should be making more movies like this.

Resident Evil: Afterlife (3D)

Resident-Evil-4-Afterlife-PosterBeen a long time since I edited this blog.. Got caught up with life,,

Well let's start with this popular Game-Movie franchise ‘Resident Evil’ where many people have been anticipating the whole yearlong.

Brief Synopsis

In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice (Jovovich), continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive at the city is overran by thousands of Undead - and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

Review

This movie has a pretty ‘cool’ action scenes during the beginning. I thought the whole movie was going to end there, but it was twisted and the story began to develop.

Well, one thing that I liked about this movie is that they have good story/film development in the middle, and did not rush things like any other game-movie genre. Furthermore, I took a liking on how the producers are killing people off without any warning, which could serve  good suspense to the audiences An. bonus  is that they included the monsters from RE5 into the film.. which has a mixed response  from the viewer.

However, I find myself wasted the extra bucks for watching 3D because I can only find significant scenes where I can really feel the 3D effects, and the rest is not much a different from a 2D screen.

Finally, I would not suggest people to go for the 3D because it's a totally waste of time and strength,  but overall its still a watchable movie, i mean watchable as in normal quality. But would still serve as a good entertainment to the audience.

Vampires Suck! Hell Yeah

KeyartThis is a parody that I have been waiting for. Now let those vampire-haters out there have their revenge.

A Brief Synopsis

A spoof of vampire-themed movies, where teenager Becca finds herself torn between two boys. As she and her friends wrestle with a number of different dramas, everything comes to a head at their prom.

Review..

HA HA  A parody that i would like to praise ever since the making of “Scary Movie” franchise. This is a movie worth watching for all those die-hard vampire haters out there but to those ‘Twilight’ fans, it's better you refrain from  watching a movie that would likely break your heart into a million pieces :)

OK, now I would say this parody has some really unexpected funny scenes that made me laugh from the beginning right up to the end. The ‘jokes’ weren't over made like some other parody but still able to deliver some good laughs.

The casts could  put up some good acting as well, something you rarely see in most parodies. In fact, I hope to find a few of them turning into big stars later.

VAMPIRES SUCK VAMPIRES SUCK

What surprises me the most, is the casts especially Jacob and Edwards that look so identical to the original movie actor Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Somehow, I find these 'Vampires suck' actors are much better looking than the original ones.

Finally, what impresses me is that they could  match the ending part with a good flow of scenes in the beginning. Watch it and you’ll get what I mean.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

600full-the-shawshank-redemption-poster BEHOLD! The highest rated film in IMDB !

Frankly, i had not read about the synopsis before starting to watch this. I was worried that I’m going to be bored to death as the film goes on, we all know some of the famous movies are known for being too long-winded and dull. Somehow, after the first few minutes, i was magnetized till the end.

A Brief Synopsis

A man named Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) was wrongfully jailed for a crime he did not commit, there he met a con, Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding (Morgan Freeman) who is capable of supplying different types of items to the inmates. Both were bonded over the years, sharing happiness and despair towards the end.

Review..

I'm extremely impressed with the detailed storyline well-written, screenplay and the good selection of actors. The film is carefully produced so that the viewer can actually fully understand the whole process of the story without being confused. I’m especially fond of the slight climax in the middle of the story, but had hoped the ‘part‘of the movie had turned out otherwise, in which I’m sure would make the story even more interesting. Moreover, the clever narration by Morgan Freeman is an added attraction to the movie.

No doubt this is an excellent film, but I don’t find this film as great as its reputable. Probably, due to the reason that there are many other films being produced during the period from when this film is produced until the day i actually watched it. The reason being said so is because as the film goes on, I could find other films that i find certain similarities in terms of character portrayal, the theme and so on.

Overall, this is a well made movie which has a meaningful message towards the end of the film. Even so, I supposed such a classical movie would prove to be worthwhile to watch if you are an avid movie fan. How I wished that I could have come across this film much earlier which I’m sure it would an altogether a different experience

The Expandables (2010)

The-Expendables-movie-poster1-404x600

Woot! Look at the poster..  Look at how many action stars are featured in this movie!  I bet all of you are anticipating for this film.. let's take a look of what they had in stored for us.

A Brief Synopsis

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his team of mercenaries  are hired to take down a vicious dictator in Vilena, a fictional country in South America.

Review..

I’m sure everyone is expecting this to be a hit considering the huge amount of stars in a single film. In fact, it is a ‘Hit'’ worldwide, generating $34.8 million in its opening week.

Sadly, to say.. I wasn’t impressed with the film at all. Maybe I have had too many expectations on them, or maybe they are just aren’t that good but whatever, one mans’ meat is another man's poison right.??

Let’s come back to the reviewing part, this is supposed to be an action movie, but I find that amount action scenes are too few to be true, as the matter of fact, I can actually recall how many of them were there in the whole movie. No doubt, there is one astonishing scene that ‘woo’ us all, yeah only 1.

Next, let's talk about the casts, we all heard rumors that Sylvester Stallone is in debt while after the movie was made right?? :)  I wasn’t sure at first, but I got convinced once  I saw the female lead. Oh My Gosh.. I think they are pretty out of budget that they have to hire someone who got no looks, no body figure,  and cant act, yeah I'm serious. Well, I never like Sylvester Stallone’s acting that much, and this movie did not change that fact either, but I gotta admit, he is much better now. However, there is this one man who made the film get interesting when I was falling asleep, and that guy is…….Jason Statham!!! Yeah, its been years since ‘Transporter 1',’ and this guy is still good as ever.. Especially the scene at the basketball court.. Now that’s what I called action.. And let’s not forget the Chinese guy, Jet Li, I don’t really know why he had accepted such role, I mean for someone like Jet Li  to play a clown is just too much! He is better than that, you know what I mean. Well, maybe he is doing Sylvester a favour, who knows?

Expendables V.S. A-Team??!!

I had this friend who made this interesting statement, I heard him said “ Expendables is better than A-Team!”. OK, I did not comment earlier is because I want to save it for this blog. Here is what I got to say:  Expendables' is no where near A-Team, in terms of  the storyline, acting, action scene, and even the conclusion of the film beats The Expendables’ flat! Not to even mention the weak plot of the film..

Well, that’s all I got to say :) Thanks for reading!

Fair Comment? Tell me what you think.

Glory (1989)

glory-DVDcover

A filmed that was produced the same year that I was born. No doubt I was skeptical whether I could finish this movie up but surprisingly, I was hooked to the movie from the beginning right up to the end.

A Brief Synopsis
Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick) leads a ‘colored’ regiment through the U.S Civil War battling prejudice between his own army and his upper ups.

Warning: Minor spoilers ahead

Review..
I would say it’s a highly touching and inspirational film that many of us would enjoy. This film back-dated into 1860’s where the Civil War had begun. I believe during that time, the American-African (Negroes) is still being treated as slaves and 2nd class citizens.. So this film shows how during the times of war, these ‘blacks’ volunteered themselves to war and yet being neglected and treated unfairly.

Once again, the reason this movie touching because it’s able to display different themes such as patriotism, bravery, courage, faith, and selflessness which in the end, changes the heart of those who had discrimination against the troupers.

Unlike famous war films like ‘Thin Red Line’ and ‘Saving Private Ryan’ which is full of battlefield violence and gory, ‘Glory’ is about the struggles of a Colonel, and his regiment had to face to prove themselves worthy to fight for the country they love. Even so, probably due to the cinematic technology of the era, the war scenes would be quite dull but still enjoyable.

Furthermore, I truly love the cast, especially Matthew Broderick, who plays Col. Robert Shaw, who is capable of bringing up the traits of a fine leader, and Morgan Freeman as Sgt. Major John Rawlins. Most of the actors are so young back then you probably would not even recognize them.

So, yeah they deserve the three Academy Awards that they had won because after two decades of production, this movie is still able to win some praises..

“Hak Se Wui” a.k.a Election (2005)

3570064_pro

Took the time to watch this movie at home, watching at home can be a pain sometimes if the movie isn't that interesting but i did managed to finish it :)

A Brief Synopsis

Two disputing gang leaders are competing for the new chairman’s position of Hong Kong’s Triad Society and they are going to do whatever they can to secure the sit. Who shall prevail?

Review..

A generally well-scripted movie and the dialogues that makes it even more interesting. Well just like any other Hong Kong’s triad film, a lot of vulgarities and violence is a must but you probably won’t find too many disturbing scenes (perfect if you are not fan of brutality ) in this movie  which makes it practically viewable by families without children under the age of 12.. i think. In fact, a too civilized “triad” movie wouldn’t be too enjoyable, don’t they?

What makes this movie engaging is that the amount of reputable actors that are in it, we have Simon Yam, Leung Ka Fai, Louis Koo, Nick Cheung and the list goes on…. Most of them are my favorite actors. I never liked Leung Ka Fai’s acting but no doubt he did manage to put up a decent performance here.  In some cases, movies that includes too many favored actors usually focuses too much on the actors thus neglecting the plot which spoils the entire production.

However, “Election” is well-plotted and distributes the actors’ appearances evenly. The climax keep on coming and surprises me is the ending.. it’s not a twisted ending but still it’s a clever approach by the producer.

Overall, it’s an interesting movie and its recommended to those who enjoyed Hong Kong movies..

Tekken

clip_image001

5th of August.. Premiers date for Tekken. Never in my life I would watch a movie on the premiers day but there is always 1st time in everything right?

What attracts me to watch?

Seriously i never looked up to this movie at all… Since the day i heard Tekken is in production, my enthusiasm fell straight on the floor. But I went up to IMDB to check the ratings; I nearly fell off the chair when i saw the rating. It’s extremely high rating for a movie of such genre, I instantaneously called my cousin and asked if he would like to take the risk his time to catch Tekken with me.

A Brief Synopsis

It sets during the world was in war and chaos, a young man Jin Kazama (Jon Foo) witnessed the death of her mother  and swore vengeance on the responsible killer, Kazuya (Ian Anthony Dale). But first, he needs to compete and win the “King of Iron Fist” tournament against world’s top fighters to achieve his goal.

WARNING : MASS SPOILERS AHEAD!

Review:

A note to the producer: You darn well know fighting-game genre would not work with your low-budget plan. Now you have destroyed another fighting game franchise.. How many more are there left? Please do not attempt to produce another movie like this unless you’re seriously about it.

Well, in case you read my note to the producer, you people should know how i felt about this movie. It’s disappointing; i don’t think the production company is even serious about making this film in the first place.

Allow me to explain why this movie is not worth watching at all.

Characters Portrayal:-

Sadly to say.. Other than Heihachi Mishima, rest of the characters deliberately failed to imitate the Tekken fighters. Jin, for example looks so much like a lad than a martial artist who is suppose fierce, mature and charismatic.

Action:-

I was glad to know most of the actors are stuntmen so i wasn't that worried at first, then came the worst cameraman and ruined it, Not only that, the characters had no stances or fighting style. And the best part is.. Tekken fighters finishes their opponents off UFC style of fighting.. Ironic..

Costumes:-

Ah… Finally there is something good that I can talk about , the costumes are all similar with the game. At least they did put in some budget on clothing. Even Hoshimitsu had a decent armor.

Acting: -

Now, tell me how you expected it to be.. Yup no surprises, they just can’t act

Special Effects:-

Other than a few explosion scenes, don’t expect anything more

Ok i guessed that’s all, i think it’s more than a comedy film than a action film where i laughed my @$$ off when i saw how Marshall Law , Kazuya and Heihachi looked.

I personally think the only adequate actor is Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa who plays Heihachi, well it’s a low-budget film.. i should know better.

Why Vampires Suck?

EdwardCullenedited

Hey Hey guys… I bet the moment you saw the title.. the new upcoming parody film “vampire suck” flashes across your mind right??

I don’t know how many of you guys actually like parody films, but I do enjoy watching it once a while.. BUT for the 1st time.., I am actually looking forward to “Vampire Suck” Why??? Here’s Why!

I never like vampires.. the word “vampire” never gave me any spine-chilling terror or sleepless nights experiences, I mean.. sometimes I do ask myself.. why am I not afraid of them and I still find them suck.. lets take look at the old-timer vampires like Lord Count Dracula for example :

images

i) They are known to suck a lot blood and leave you dry like the government.

ii) They only appears in the middle of the night and are afraid of the sunlight. A fag?

iii) They are never popular with girls , every girl in town who spoke to them will somehow get bitten for no valid reason! That’s just ain’t right dude…

iv) they cant stand garlic.. you kidding me??

v) they just look too darn ugly

so if we look at these points above, I’m sure we all find them suck. If Count Dracula were your friend on facebook, you’ll find him with the least friends.. There’s no doubt about it!

Count Dracula did realize his past mistakes and taught his future generation well… So 1 Decade later, the modern breed of new vampires were born.

Well, the strict parenting did paid off, and young modern vampires like Edward Cullen became is the exact opposite of their ancestors:

i) They can now control lust for bloods and drink wine instead.

ii) They are able to adapt the sunlight and go to the beach like a real man now.

iii) They can now flirt and communicate with girls… According to statistics, 8 out of 10 girls are crazy about this dude named Cullen now..

iv) They loved anything that goes with garlic

v) They can sit at home watching TV and still look gorgeous when we normal man are working our butts off in gym.

Now, they really scare crap out of me, no girls are willing to talk to me unless I said I'm a Cullen fan and will be going to the “how to be a cool vampire course” which cost me RM 5000 a month.. Will you in any chance still think vampires doesn’t suck?

Look.. from the primeval times until now year 2010.. they have kept annoying me until i could not bear any further.. Therefore, I'm going by protest by going into the movie!!!

Despicable What...???

Waka!! Despicable Me.. what kind of a movie title is that? Cant they think of something much more creative like...urgh i don't know ><. Seriously, what's your first impression about the movie when you first look at the posters..? I'm sure many of you thought the 'minions' are suppose to be the main characters right ? :) Oh in-case you people hadn't watched it, 'minion' is the cute yellow little humanoid creature who speaks Spanish(i think i heard they said 'waka') in a squeakish voice.. Even a guy like me find them unusually adorable :)

A Brief Synopsis

Gru (Steve Carell) a highly skilled thief/villain got his reputation is vain when a competitor Vector (Jason Segel) stole the pyramid and replaced it with a fake replica. So Gru had this wonderful idea to reclaim his reputation as a world's renown thief by stealing.......... The Moon , therefore will he succeed in his evil plan to steal the precious asset of the earth and reclaim his fame?

Warning : Spoilers ahead
Review..
Ok.. A super villain with ambition, met someone/somebody, changes his heart, turned over a new leaf and save the earth.. Sounds familiar? Yup, sounds like some classic cartoon.

But for Despicable Me, its still highly entertaining and fun to watch for all age group. Come on, ignore what i said earlier, there is some originality in this movie though. Its an animation.. an animation suppose to be fun and hilarious, well i would say Despicable Me did meet these criteria. And remember to keep an eye on those minions.. man they are seriously cute.. i would buy one of its 'doll' if i can ever come across one

And because the minions look too darn cute, this movie deserves a higher rating..
Of course, do expect some predictable ending, i don't expect too much from entertainment movie though, if it manages to entertain me then it works as a film :)

Incredible Inception

Alright... my 1st movie entree is gonna be for the probably best movie of the year!! Inception!!!

Ok, initially when i saw the advertising billboard of Inception on my way back from college i thought its gonna be another "end of the world" kind of movie which i would find absolute pointless in watching.

But then i came to know that's its actually different from what i thought and the trailer.. i never watch the trailers, ok nevermind lets get back to business

The Brief Sypnosis

Its actually about a man named Cobb (Leonardo DiCarpio) who was given a proposal by a japanese entrepreneur,Saito(Ken Watanabe) to plant an idea into the mind of a young man named Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy) to destroys the business empire that is inherited to him by his dying father. Cobb then assembles a team and and carry out the mission into Robert's subconscious..

Ok not too much into the story to prevent spoilers

Review..
Firstly let me give an applause to the director of the movie, Christopher Nolan, for taking such great risk in attempting to produce such abstract subject (dealing with human mind). You know if he didn't dealt with it carefully, Inception could easily turn into the ugliest movie of all time.

Come to think of it, why do i think Inception is a great movie?
Like i said, Inception portrays all together a different subject from we normally seen in the movies, frankly speaking when is the last time we saw a movie like this? Going into the human's dream, and altogether changing his mindset when he wakes up. Don't we wish we could all do the same ? Changing the bad habits into a newer, productive ones :)

I personally felt this movie is great because its actually possible for inception to happen. Its just like sleep-learning, where people tries to channel information into someone's who is asleep and wakes up with the information. Inception uses the same concept. And because its a movie about the human mind and is perfectly illustrated, its leaves a lot of the movie viewers some deep impression and had them thinking about the subject over and over again.. That's the sign of a successful movie :)

And the final part of the movie, its a smart move for Christopher Nolan to not conclude the movie clearly and left us all baffles about the possible conclusion or outcome of the movie. Man, i just love twists..

Welcoming & Opening Speech ^^

Greetings!! First of all, Welcome to fearnomovie.blogspot.com..

I'm fearnomore and that's how the name of the blog came about.. does it sounds cool or lame?? i dont know.. but i do find it cool when my sis suggested it though :)

Ok.. this blog is about me, an ordinary teen, expressing and giving comments about whatever movies that i could come across.. Anything that been said on this blog in future is PURELY my own opinions so..... i do expect myself being harsh and overboard to some crappy movies that could possibly made me wasted my own time.. :) but pls do forgive me ok..

Now..Anyone wanna know what drives me in creating this blog??

Actually, i never considered myself being a 'pro' movie reviewer .. but i do find myself having some professional taste in movie reviewing.. im not trying to brag here :)
Ok come back to the question.. the inspiration came about when one day when i was talking to my friend. He said "I went to watch (The Jade and the Pearl) yesterday", so i asked "how was it??" and he goes "To me, still ok la.... but to you.. i dont think so"

the reason him saying that is.. because he thinks my taste for movies is higher than average people. Yeah he's right.. i do always have different opinions from my peers.. but i sometimes do find them describing about a movie way tooooooooooooooooooooo overrated.

Another inspiration came from my cousin.. we talked about movies almost every night, sharing opinions with each other and we mostly do agree with each other.. I do really enjoyed it so i hope i could pass the entertainment to you guys as well.

Lastly, my source of movie information mainly comes from imdb.com because i do find their rating system is fair, i do find some underrated and overrated movies there but who cares anyway... :)

So i hope i could update this blog at least 3 times a week.. so please do support guys

love,
fearnomore
